To sell an Equipter RB4000 you need the physical, transferable state title in hand, and the unit has to be paid off with no loan or lien on it. That is the whole paperwork requirement on day one. The rest, including the purchase agreement, the bill of sale and how the signed title travels, is handled with you at signing, and you do it from your phone.
This guide covers the paperwork questions we get on nearly every sale. It is practical guidance from a company that buys RB4000s every week, not legal advice; title rules vary by state, and we walk you through yours when we make the offer. For the photos we need alongside the paperwork, see how to sell an RB4000 in about a week.
Do I need the title to sell my Equipter?
Yes. Without a transferable title in hand we cannot buy the unit. An Equipter RB4000 is a titled trailer in every state we buy in, and the title is how ownership actually transfers. We confirm you have it before we make an offer and verify it before any payment is released.
What counts as a title: the current state-issued certificate of title for the trailer, in your name or your company’s name, with no open lien recorded on it. What does not count: a manufacturer’s certificate or statement of origin, a registration card, the original invoice, or lender purchase paperwork. If all you have is one of those, your state’s motor vehicle office can issue a title; do that first.
| Document | Needed to sell? | When we need it |
|---|---|---|
| State title (transferable, no lien) | Yes, required | Confirm you have it at inquiry; copies at signing; original travels with the unit or is overnighted |
| Lien release / payoff letter | Only if a lender ever held the title | Before we can make an offer |
| Photos (front, sides, rear, hour meter, VIN plate) | Yes, required for an offer | With your inquiry |
| Purchase agreement and bill of sale | Yes, we prepare them | Sent for e-signature after you accept the offer |
| Manufacturer’s certificate of origin, registration, invoice | Not a substitute for the title | Helpful history, never required |
| Your ID, bank login, Social Security or EIN | Never by email or text | Payment details are confirmed by phone at signing |
What if there is still a loan or lien on the unit?
We cannot buy it until the lien is released. This is the one paperwork situation that stops a sale cold, so it is worth handling first. Call the lender, ask for the payoff amount and the lien-release process, pay it off, and get the release (or a clean title) in hand. Then send us the photos and we pick up right where we left off. Many sellers finish this in a week or two; the offer waits for you.
We know some buyers offer to pay the lender directly at closing. We keep it simpler and safer for both sides: title in hand, no lien, then a firm offer. It is also why our offers close in about a week instead of dragging on while a lender processes paperwork.
Does my title need to be notarized?
In some states, yes. A handful of states require the seller’s signature on the title to be notarized before it is valid for transfer; most do not. We tell you whether your state needs it when we send the agreement, and if it does, any bank or shipping store notary takes five minutes. Do not sign the title until we have confirmed the buyer details and the timing; a title signed in the wrong place or too early can mean a trip back to the motor vehicle office.
What if the unit is owned by my company?
That is normal, and it works the same way. Most RB4000s are titled to a roofing company. The person signing needs the authority to sell the company’s equipment (an owner, officer or member), the title is signed in the company’s name by that person, and the payment goes to the company. We prepare the agreement so the company is the seller and the signer is named with their title. If the person signing is not the person we have been talking to, that is fine too; tell us who will sign so the paperwork matches.
How does signing and payment actually work?
You sign from your phone, choose wire or check, and we schedule pickup.
- You accept the offer. It is a firm, written number; pickup is included, and there are no commissions or listing fees.
- We send the purchase agreement and bill of sale for e-signature. You review and sign on your phone or computer. John signs for SLC.
- We agree on how the title travels. Usually the signed (and, where required, notarized) title rides with the unit for our driver, or you overnight it with tracking. We confirm the exact steps for your state before anything is signed.
- Payment. Most sellers choose a wire, which usually lands within 48 hours of signing; a check is fine if you prefer. We confirm your banking details by phone, never through a link in an email.
- Pickup. Our driver comes to you anywhere in the U.S., or you can drop off in Gordonville, PA. Keys, remote and any accessories go with the unit.
What should I never send by email or text?
Your title, your ID, your bank login, your Social Security number or EIN. At the inquiry stage we only need photos of the machine and a yes to “title in hand, paid off.” Title copies come at signing through the agreement process, and payment instructions are confirmed by phone. If anyone claiming to buy your Equipter asks for a photo of the title or your bank login up front, slow down.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell my Equipter if it still has a loan on it?
Not to SLC until the lien is released. Pay off the lender, get the lien release or a clean title in hand, then send photos and we make the offer. The offer waits for you.
I lost the title. Can I still sell?
Apply for a duplicate title through your state’s motor vehicle office first. Once the duplicate is in hand (and shows no lien), you are ready to sell.
Do I sign the title before or after I am paid?
We walk through the exact order for your state when we send the agreement. Do not sign the title until we have confirmed the buyer details and timing with you.
Who signs if the Equipter belongs to my LLC?
An owner, officer or member with authority to sell the company’s equipment. The agreement names the company as the seller and that person as the signer, and payment goes to the company.
Will you need my Social Security number or a W-9?
Not by email or text, and not to make an offer. Any tax paperwork that applies to your sale is handled through a separate, secure process at closing.
